Another Blow to our Wallets is on the Horizon

Here we are already almost 2 weeks into 2023. The industry for us here in California and the Eastern Sierra is changing fast with NEM 3.0 and a recently announced kick in the face from the 3 major utilities announcing rate hikes on both gas and electric for a majority of the state.

Solar Solutions Still Exist

We wanted to make sure you are aware that we at Highpoint Solar are here and ready to help you secure an affordable Solar Power System, prior to changes to Net Energy Metering 2.0, that will take place in April 2023. Changes that will make solar power (without a battery back-up) a much less appealing and more expensive endeavor.

What is NEM 2.0?

NEM 2.0 is available today and for a short period of time to come. Under NEM 2.0 the utility will buy back the excess power you generate. Clients gaining approval for this program prior to April 2023 will be grandfathered and able to reap NEM 2.0 benefits for the next 20 years. This program allows  you to generate credits during the summer and use those credits in the evening hours and winter months when solar power systems generate less power.  In the summer months excess solar power flows back to the Grid supplying power to your community. Thus creating green energy benefits for all that consume it. In the future with NEM 3.0 this buy back option is virtually non-existent.

Highpoint Solar is Here For You

We are well-positioned and have a steady supply of top-of-the-line competitively-priced Solar Power Systems and the staff ready to manage all aspects of the Solar Power Process for you, including in house utility Net Energy Metering 2.0 interconnection applications.

It will be our priority to gain approval from the Utility for our new clients quickly, ensuring you can take advantage of Net Energy Metering 2.0 - for the next 20 years.

NET ENERGY METERING AND THE END OF NEM 2.0

NEM 3.0 IS COMING. BEAT THE RUSH FOR SOLAR BEFORE TIME RUNS OUT!

The sun sets on NEM 2.0 April 2023

The California Public Utility Commission has reached an unfortunate decision regarding NEM 2.0

The California Solar + Storage Association stated “It is a dark day in California when the utility regulators try to block out the sun.”

THERE IS STILL TIME TO LOCK IN NEM 2.0 for 20 years

What is Net Energy Metering (NEM) and Why Does it Matter?

● NEM 2.0 is a program that credits a solar client's electric bill for surplus energy sent back to the grid.

● Solar clients later use those credits during the evening and winter months when solar production can not meet their energy needs.

● Each month the solar client will receive a statement and is able to track their production and consumption over a 12 month period. On the 12th month a “settle up” bill is issued. If your solar was designed correctly you will owe zero or have a credit balance.

● NEM 3.0 virtually eliminates this buy back structure.

● The Deadline for NEM 2.0 is April 2023.

What To Expect When You're Expecting Solar

THE HIGHPOINT SOLAR EXPERIENCE

Is solar right for me?

When you choose the right  solar company, the truth is, solar is one of the most amazing investments available for homeowners today. Generating your own power allows you to eliminate your electricity bill and recoup your initial investment in solar power quickly. Most homeowners recoup their initial investment in solar power in under 5 years. Now for the best part…  All of the money previously spent on electricity stays in your pocket! Saving you tens of thousands of dollars over the lifetime of your solar power system.

Yes! I am going solar

A great decision! We are proud to keep the entire solar process in house. We are with you every step of the way.  Complete with  industry leading 25 year warranties.

Design and Interconnection

We start by making sure your home's electric is up to snuff.  To aid us in our design we use the exact location of your home, its roof line and shading analysis to ensure your solar power system is built to give you the most power production for your buck. Our decades of experience allow us to work seamlessly with the utility to gain approval to interconnect your new solar power source to the grid.

Yay! Installation day is here

We work directly with a multitude of solar power equipment distributors, cutting out the middleman and passing the savings directly onto you. Now that your top of the line equipment is here, it's time to put it to work. Our highly skilled and insured installation crew will be on site for 2 - 3 days,  installing, connecting and commissioning your new  solar power system. We take extreme care to protect your home while adding to your home’s value with a beautiful, low profile, sleek all back solar power system.

Inspection and Monitoring

Our team works closely with county and town inspectors. After your system is installed we will meet with the county or town inspector. This step ensures that your  solar power system is built as designed and all electric and snow load codes have been precisely adhered to.  Our systems are smart and use your home's internet connection to report up to the minute solar power production calculations.

Permission To Operate

We will provide the utility with the final inspection. This last step gains Permission To Operate your new solar power system. With PTO your utility billing structure will change to a Net Energy Metered account.  Net Energy Metering allows you to bank solar credits in the summer months, when production is high and later use those credits in the winter months, when shorter days equal lower solar power production. Your utility company will continue to send monthly statements with an annual settle up date. The goal in going solar is to have your  final statement of the year reflect  a zero or small credit balance.

Here at Highpoint Solar we pride ourselves in offering you the best  journey to Energy Independence.  We have decades of  experience and by keeping each aspect of the solar journey in house we are guaranteed to exceed all of your expectations.

Top 5 Reasons To Go Solar This Fall With Highpoint Solar

Amy Smith

Sep 23, 2022

Summer is officially over and we’re heading into the crisp, cool days of fall. As temperatures become cooler, the upcoming months are typically when we see our lowest electricity bills of the year. As a result, autumn can traditionally be overlooked as a time to go solar as pricey electricity bills are not top of mind. However, fall is actually the perfect season for Highpoint Solar to install your solar energy system. In fact, it’s a common myth that those with solar panels only reap money savings on their electric bills during the warmer months. While spring and summer yield longer, sun-filled days that are conducive for energy generation, the truth is that solar power is not seasonal.

Reason 1: Generate Significant Electricity—Even During the Winter

One frequent misconception surrounding solar energy is that panels don’t work during cooler temperatures. However, that’s far from the truth. Solar panels generate energy from the sun’s light—not its heat. And while fall and winter do feature shorter days, solar energy systems actually perform better in chillier environments. In fact, research shows that panels begin losing their efficiency around 77 °F. Meaning, colder temperatures increase the energy production efficiency of solar panels. This may seem counterintuitive, but solar energy panels produce less electricity when it’s hot. You may see your panel’s highest production in the fall, winter, or spring months.

Reason 2: Bank Excess Energy to Offset Expensive Months

A major perk of installing a solar energy system is the ability to take advantage of Net Energy Metering. This allows you to bank the excess solar power your home generates and earn a credit with SCE or LADWP to lower your electric bills. During the cool fall months when you’re producing less energy (say, due to a lack of air conditioning needs), this means you could potentially generate more electricity than you use. In that case, you can save the excess energy you’re storing up. The ultimate goal of going solar is to offset your energy usage throughout the year. By utilizing strategies such as Net Energy Metering, you can take the excess energy you may generate during a longer, sunnier day of summer and apply it to perhaps a shorter, cloudier day in the winter.

Reason 3: Increase Solar Panel Performance with Snow

The Eastern Sierra sees its fair share of snow during the winter months, but did you know this could actually be a good thing for your solar energy panels? If snow is covering your panels, of course, that will hinder solar energy production until it sheds. However, solar panels thrive in colder temperature environments. And as a bonus, white snow can reflect the sunlight to improve the performance of your photovoltaic
system (which helps cells turn sunlight into electricity). Additionally, because solar panels are not insulated, they can generate heat to increase how fast the snow on your roof melts. They are also often installed at an angle, which can help the snow slide right off the roof. Highpoint Solar offers panels with the highest level of snow load capacity on the market, paired with 25 year warranties. So you can rest assured during stormy days.

Reason 4: Quicker Installation Times in the Off Season

Construction’s busy season begins to ramp up in the spring and peak throughout the summer. As temperatures begin to cool, the overall installation timeline could be expedited during the fall and winter as demand decreases. The average time span to complete a solar energy installation project is typically three months. Additionally, Highpoint Solar has more flexible schedules during the off season. In fact, we actually
prefer installing in the valley during the cooler months, such as fall, as opposed to the extreme heat of a summer.

REASON 5: TAX SAVINGS

Looking for an end of year tax savings? The Federal Tax Credit ITC was recently increased to 30% of the cost of your new solar energy system. For every $100 dollars that you spend on solar, $30 can go right back in to your pocket in the form of Federal Tax Savings.
